Inclusion versus decency and equality.

I thought that when I saw on TripAdvisor that a tourist had complained that Ben Nevis was too high and there was no McDonalds at the top, I had heard the most stupid and ill-educated comment ever, but I was wrong. A trans lobbyist came out with the following: I misquote with apologies " a vagina is a bonus hole". I have never heard anything so offensive or stupid.

A handful of years ago, no one had heard of "transphobic"; it became a label to hang on anyone who didn't support their views. They are in danger of this becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. With all due respect to those in the process of changing gender, these activists are not equality/inclusion warriors, they are misogynistic social terrorists. The road toward female equality has been long and painful and is nowhere near finished. These vile attacks on women, particularly those who try to talk sense, set the cause back immensely. When will we wake up and challenge these indecent minority views? We cannot deny their right to express their views but we MUST stop them having undue influence in our major industries, our government and our education establishments or cheating in sports. Why are people so afraid to refuse to be assigned or use made-up pronouns or to be forced to change our language to suit the whims of a tiny minority?

What's next? Burn all books that say that only men have penisies? Our generation can remember where that censorship led.

Basically if it swims on water, has feathers and quacks, it’s a duck. What you were born as will never change who you are. For god sake what is going on in our green and pleasant, or not so pleasant now, land. Black Lives Matter. Trans lives matter. No !!!. All lives matter. Stop trying to make us all coffee coloured gender neutral vegetable eating zombies. Let’s promote our own identities as we we’re supposed to be. I’m proud to be a white heterosexual meat eating Englishman.. Is that so wrong?

Hi Parsnip,
You are so right! This "woke" generation is trying to change the world - and it's not for the better. I agree that ALL lives matter, not just black or white or yellow or brown etc. We need to be vocal enough to make our opinions count instead of keeping quiet to keep the peace.

It certainly is not wrong. However, there are those minorities who would deny your right to say so and they seek influence beyond their numbers to silence any but their own tiny world view.

Absolutely. I have said before that perhaps we need a "Grey" or "Silver" Party to rail against the sheer lack of common sense in government at national and local level.
I try not to become angry but the stupidity of the week this week is a beauty. We are told we must switch to electric cars and heating. A statement was made that the National Grid needs vast improvements; it was also stated that local planning permission could take 10-15 years.
I rest my case.

Absolutely. I’m surprised that nobody has challenged our posts. I feel that the majority accept and agree with them. It’s only a matter of time before someone picks up the baton and leads a campaign to correct the imbalance we have now.
Will definitely get my support.

I've heard that electric car arheavier than petrol/diesel caars so they aare causing damage to the roads and also multi-storey car parks. I have also read that the HR department of a hospital in the North East have issued a new handbook which says that managers must not sympathise with women who feel uncomfortable having to use uni-sex toilets.
We live in a crazy world and I despair for the future. A Silver or Grey party sounds brilliant, Billythequiche. I will vote for you! 🙂

Ha Ha. If only I was young enough, but then I would not have the experience of age. I could not be a politician, I cannot tell a convincing lie, my face would give me away. Also, I could not maintain a diplomatic silence when confronted with: hypocrisy, corruption, incompetence and dishonesty. As a baby boomer, the sacrifices made to keep our freedoms, rights and standards were all too real to me as a child. Inclusivity and diversity will not be achieved by the force feeding of cant and minority views, the imposition of "quotas", or the erosion of free debate and discussion.

Have either of you two seen the latest video of Germaine Greer speaking on this issue? Very forceful rejection of this woke agenda. It resonated with me that newly trans women haven’t done the years of apprenticeship at being classed second or less worthy let alone the women’s body issues from puberty. Find me a newly trans woman who has experienced debilitating pain every month for 30 years followed by a potential 5 years of brain fog.interspersed with massive hormonal spikes if she has born children. I suspect newly trans women might rethink when they realise they will be working harder than men for less money and get a smaller pension at the end of their working life.

I haven't seen the video but thank goodness some well-known women are speaking out in defence of our sex. I have never thought that going back to how things used to be when I was younger was a great idea e.g. no maternity leave; I had to leave Lloyds Bank when I was six months pregnant and had also been asked by one of the managers if I was pregnant. He had been considering transferring me to a new position on the foreign desk but there was no chance of that as I was just pregnant! However, there has got to be a better way forward than the one we seem to be travelling down at the moment.

Have not seen the video but it is to be hoped that she is not vilified like some of our great authors, charity heads and educators. As a mere man in his seventies, who can only claim to be witness to: difficult childbirth, post birth depression, long and difficult menopause; I realise that my generation were remiss in championing womens rights. When I was young, Germain Greer terrified me but made me think seriously about these issues. I would like to think she would do the same to the activists but they cannot be reasoned with, they are more commited to their dogma than the Spanish Inquisition. The lead must come from parliament and the judiciary to curb the excesses and stop the attacks on women and freedom of speech. If you will pardon the expression, the male partners, brothers, fathers and other relatives/representives must "grow a pair" and defend, in the media and physically, women under attack. Please don't label that as "alpha male" attitude of poor helpless females. A lot of power and influence is still male orientated and the struggle for equality is not won yet. I am not an activist or political animal, I can only influence by example. We are still, if not more, happy after 50+ years of marriage as we are best friends and have respect for each other as equals.

Billythequiche, it's interestng that only you and I on Silversurfers seem to be annoyed by the way that these "woke" activists are trying to manipulate us to adopt their language and terminology. Like you, I'm glad that I am old and don't feel that I have to apologise for my views to family, friends and acquaintances. I always welcome open discussions but have got beyond trying to please people just to keep the peace.

Fortunately, I only have one grandchild and she is no longer in school so all the mind-boggling things which I have been reading about the latest agenda for sex education in primary schools don't apply to her but many parents are taking their children out of school because of the content. Homework one night. Need I say more!

Read in todays paper that the same people who censored books by Roald Dahl, are now doing the same for the Beano. Is nothing sacred? Have we totally given up on common sense? They are now issuing warnings before performances of Shakespeares Twelfth Night. Not so long ago these people would have been ridiculed. I have been for a long time concerned that reading by the young is declining, this can only be exacerbated if all reading has warnings or is censored and sanitised to have no challenges. Add to that, the violent activists and the cowardly faculties are trying to stop free expression and discussion in educational establishments. Big Brother is now wearing a coat of many colours.

I share your fears over the grandchildren. I doubt they will forgive our generation for allowing this to happen to them. It is tantamount to abuse. At the root of things is a profound lack of being held responsible for actions that materially affect others. When a company such as Thames Water implodes, the CEO and shareholders should be individually and severally responsible for key debts like pensions. When similar companies pollute the water they are supposed to protect, they should not be able to increase prices to cover while paying dividends. If someone says "punch a Terf" and it happens they should be held responsible. There is no inclusivity or equality as long as we allow an aggressive minority to try and silence the majority view. We must protect those in the arts and education, first from attacks by rabid activists and then from institutions that have fallen under their thrall.
I am glad I am old. I can express my disapproval without fear of peer pressure or interference from an employer.

I agree with you 100%, Billythequiche! I am sick to death of the "woke" brigade inflicting their views on all and sundry. Of course, we are all entitled to our own opinions and should be allowed to voice them freely as long as we don't try to offend people just for the sake of it but now we have to look at badges to see if someone is a him, her or they - what is that all about for heaven's sake?
What kind of a world are we bringing our grandchildren up in? The remark about a is crude and offensive and makes me wonder if a woman, in the agony of childbirth or rape would describe it as such.
So......... shall we old fogies unite in an anti-woke brigade and continue to use the English language as it was intended and try to reverse this annoying trend to pacify the minority?
It would be interesting to know how other countries are coping with these minority groups who have set out to change the world.
