Spreading the word - WASPI

Hi Silversurfers, for ladies born in 1950's who've been subject to the state pension age increase from 60 to 65/66 why don't you join our group WASPI (check it out on Google) we are trying to get the government to think again and make transitional payments to women affected so suddenly. We are in the throes of taking legal action so it is a real possibility that we might be compensated but the more of us there are the more likely this will happen. 1000's of women are already taking action be one of them.

No-one has yet touched on the reasons for the changes to the age at which women can claim their pensions.
1 We have a fertility rate that is below replacement level, which means the indigenous British people are in decline. Therefore, there are fewer working age people to contribute the taxes that provide state pensions for the elderly.
2 The UK has a burgeoning immigrant population with many of those immigrants having large families whilst the head of the family remains economically inactive, sometimes for the duration of his 'working' age life. Ergo, lots of welfare but few contributions.
3 Foreign aid to corrupt failed states is a serious drain on the nation's coffers.
4 involvement in wars that are none of our business.
5 Huge sums for computer systems that are not fit for purpose that are written off.
None of the above will change, we can be certain that when money is tight that the government will make the least well off among us pay the highest price in terms of austerity measures.
In a new twist the government has hinted that council taxes will have to rise in order to pay for the influx of man-children from Calais.

Hi Archie, I'm sorry to hear how frustrating this is for you and I feel a bit slighted at your attitude towards women (too busy watching soaps) not nice and certainly not true for the majority. I believe in equality as do most of the women I refer to and it's funny how the government want us to be equal when they are going to benefit by it. I left school at 15yr worked and paid full NI for 46 yrs. We didn't receive equal pay we weren't allowed to join company pensions, we looked after our children. We now care for elderly relatives, grand children etc. We were not written to in 1995 about pension age changes they waited until a year or two before out 60th birthdays and in some cases after 60. We have the proof from DWP. I worked in social housing for many years and I'm well aware of how the government dishes money out right left and centre to many that are well able to go to work. We are not asking for the age to be 60 again we are realistic but the way it has been implemented is very unfair. Girls leaving school the same day as myself, starting work the same day but because they were born a few months earlier receive there pension 2 yrs earlier. I don't call that fair do you?

Yes I really think that some men are getting the wrong end of the stick here. We are all for equality, but we should have had time to plan for this. Most of us did not have the prior warning to do so, and as Dotty pointed out we did not have the equality throughout our working lives to join pension schemes.

So unfair !

Hi Jeany, I think that's the problem a lot of people don't fully understand what we are asking for. I wouldn't say it's just men though as I know lots of men who agree with what we're about. However there are those 'I'm alright Jack's ' out there unfortunately. We paid in we're not asking for handouts, it's our money!! X

Archie, you may be right in your views that entitlements should be progressively equalised. However the point is that women in certain age groups are bearing the pain of this change disproportionately to men and have had far less time to change their plans and it is too late for them to make required financial provisions. And your general comments about women watching soaps sound rather snidey and reduce your credibility.

Well said BrightonOldBoy, and thank you. You are perfectly correct

I am going to get my head in my hands over my comments

Women wanted equality and in this case they have got it, but because it did not favour them they are again bitching.
The issue has been raised many times and is now getting boring.
My wife knew of the issue and the way society was going some 15 - 20 years ago and it was no secret to those who could get themselves away from Emmerdale or Eastenders things were going to change and she made preparations and everything is peaceful and she is drawing her pension and is happy.

Accept that things change and are going to change further.

Archie I think this is a bit unfair. My wife and I read the papers daily and take a keen interest in business and national affairs. We were not aware of the pension changes to women until c2 years ago. My view is the UK government have been lax about communicating these changes

I'm the same I have health problems and at 59 yrs old fully expected to have a pension in a few months time, which would have helped greatly.
