My son was on Tramadol for a chronic condition....it was an awful drug! Too easy to get, quite addictive, and so difficult to come off. I hope you are getting the support you need to get you through.

I am currently taking a 'mild anti-depressant' for anxiety, and mixed up my tablets one day - the result was horrendous and frightening dreams. I am dreading what will happen when I do come off them, even if it's a controlled weaning process

Hi Merc280. It's not easy trying to wean off certain medication. I had a total knee replacement 8 months ago this very day. I've recovered very well I'm pleased to say. When I left hospital I was taking codeine and paracetamol for pain relief, among one or two other meds which were for short term side effects. I never felt pain then, or now, so my pain killing regime worked well. I saw my own GP as soon as I could when home from Hospital and we had a chat about what I should take and when, so right from the off I had plan worked out for a slow and gradual pain killer reduction. I kept a notebook of what tablets I took each day. So, in the beginning, I was taking 8 codeine and 8 paracetamol a day. (4 set times each day). My plan was to reduce and stop the codeine first, which I did over a period of 3 months, then the same with the paracetamol. I had stopped taking everything by the end of the 5 month. I could probably have stopped much earlier but I felt it best to stick to my controlled plan. I had no pain and no side effects from the cessation and I was glad to be able to stop popping pills and get back to normal. My suggestion would be to see your GP and work out a plan to suit you better. Best wishes.
