I joined today because this site looks interesting. I tried searching for local communities to me but nothing came up. Then I searched cities in Scotland and again nothing. Nothing shows for the whole of Scotland. I would have thought there would have been at least one other person who lived here or hoped to visit. Maybe the software is glitchy as there are posts from a few people asking if they are the only one in an area. Thanks.

I travelled extensively while living and working overseas in 6 different countries (including England for one year). We did a two week road trip around the UK including a drive right up to John O'Groats. My two favourite cities in the world are Vienna and Edinburgh. I have a particular affinity for Scotland. Watched all of the 'Outlander' series and even visited the site of the Battle of Culloden. I would love to chat with folks who live in any part of Scotland. I love to learn about other cultures.

I am still exploring the site, as I just joined. I am 77 and live in Scotland, but I am not originally from here. It is not always easy to adjust to a new country, and even after two decades here I do not really feel at home. I like to read, and saw a heading for Bookclub on the site, but do not know how it works.

Hi there new to this so finding my way around. My life has been nothing if not interesting and continues to be so. I moved to Scotland last year to fulfill a dream. It helps that my eldest daughter lives here. I did work but gave it up recently to care for my father who sadly died in July so now am sorting out a new life. I travel south to visit my mother and other two children regularly. I have started an art class, a life long ambition and have just joined Rotary. I knit, embroider and read. I love living in Scotland but life is in turmoil because my husband decided that he prefers working down south so most of the time I am alone. I am happy on my own but love to communicate with others, hence trying this. Enough of me, for now, are there any members who live in Fife?

I am 55, born in Scotland, and for the last 35 years have lived in south east England with my husband of 32 years. The current situation has shown us that we can work anywhere ( we haven’t been to the office since March) and I am keen to move to Scotland to be nearer family in Glasgow. My husband has always lived in the area we live in now so he is a bit concerned about how welcome he will be but is willing to tag along:) the trouble is that at the moment we can’t travel as we would like and spend time in different places so deciding on a location is hard. We want to be no more than an hours drive of Glasgow and not much further north than Balloch. We would also like to be no more that half an hour from the sea. We would like to be near (within a mile or so) or in a village/small town with some facilities, where there is a community we can join in with. We love walking our dogs and so nice surrounding walks are a must. I know this sounds quite a wish list but this will be a big move for us and I would really appreciate your thoughts. We have a decent budget to buy and would prefer a nice area to a large house. Thanks for reading this.

Hi , I'm a loving and caring & friendly soon to be 65 year old, looking to find friendship & companionship in my life. I am relatively recently widowed and although I reached the depths of despair that you would understand, I with a little help from someone special, have risen back up to what might be called normality. Even so life isn't 'complete' and I would like to expand my friend base. If nothing else but to give me an interest outside of my narrow little life. Despite my recent woes, I am fairly positive, happy, settled to a degree. I realise life does and must go on. More importantly, I still have so much more to give. I am up for chats, jokes, stories and listening. Looking forward to hearing from any like-minded folks in need of some intelligent contact especially during this strange and awful year. I live in Fife, Scotland although distance is no object to an online friendship. Mike.

Do you own one? Do you feel the need for one? How ‘smart’ is your phone? Do you get the maximum use out of it? What do you use it for? Hopefully this might get a bit of ‘chat’ going. I personally have two phones. An iPhone 4 which I contracted for 2 years with ‘3’ but because of signal problems in Scotland I changed providers. Whilst I was still living in London, I switched to Vodafone. But alas, their signal is just as bad when back in Scotland. It seems that the only reliable signal in my neck of the woods is ‘O2′ I have 2 months left on my contract which I still have to pay for even though I can’t use the phone in my village! There is an erratic signal out in the street, but it will not work indoors! My 2nd phone is an odd ‘hand-me-down from my son. It works on the Android operating system and is unusual in that it can take 2 sim cards as well as an SD storage card up to 64gb It is tempting to go out and get a nice shiny new phone when my contract does finally expire. But then I have to decide. At 70yo. Do I really need all the ‘bells & whistles’ available? Which will once more, set me back about £35-£45 per month for the next 2 years. Or do I go for the alternative? A sim only contract which works out at about £8 per month. Using one of the phones that I already own.

Are there any enthusiastic ornithologists out there? Either out in the field. Or maybe just the back garden. I am nearly 70 and have been bird watching since I was a 12yo schoolboy at a boarding school right in the heart of the Dorset countryside. And I am thrilled that since coming to Scotland, I have so far.seen four birds that I never ever spotted in England! And I saw my very first red squirrel up here too.

Well done to England and Scotland for going against FIFA and wearing their poppies while playing. Now I hear that Wales have refused to wear the poppy in their match. I am ashamed to be part Welsh and my father would turn in his grave on hearing this. He went through the war with so many other Welsh men and we should respect these men and women and show how we care by wearing the poppy.

Good Morning Everyone! I left Scotland in 1986 and have just returned, so much has changed ( not all for the better) I’m currently recovering from an accident in my home. I was moving in to my new house, carrying boxes downstairs. I didn’t see a tray on the stairs which launched me up in the air, I came down and broke my leg in 4 places, local bin men called the ambulance and 2 hours later I was in hospital. Operation went really well and staff were really kind. I am recovering well, getting round on crutches and can get out and about in my car (only because it is an automatic) I look forward to reading other member's experiences….

Our MP's are so arrogant that they feel we the people of the UK yes Scotland as well , haven't got the brain capacity to vote for what we the people believe and want. Democracy is dead in Britain if these idiots get there way. My question to people is that any MP that votes against us leaving the EU should not be vote back in to there constituencies as they would be defying the will of democracy within Great Britain Shame on them!

I took up making walking sticks and walking staff's two years ago. I gather my shafts in the winter and dry them over the following year I could cheat and order them from suppliers on the net, but that would spoil the achievement of making the stick, I buy stag antlers from Scotland to make walking staffs , I have a friend who makes the blanks for walking stick handles so I buy the blanks from him and shape them to my design.

I always used to look forward to retirement but now having done all those odd jobs I have so much time to burn. I live near to a national trust site where I enjoy walking. I’ve been divorced a long time by choice. I lived abroad in Istanbul for a number of years teaching and generally enjoying learning about a new culture. I like sci-fi and have been to a few conventions - yes dressed up as a star fleet officer. I like to keep fit and exercise on a weekly basis as much as my age will allow. I like art, museums and architecture. Pandemic pending I’m hoping to visit Scotland and Ireland this year and maybe one or two other areas around the U.K.

Hi. I'm not sure this will be seen in time if at all. Being a new member here I am quite frustrated already. Are your messages being seen, do you get any responses. Now we all lead busy lives and things have to get done. I am going to open a chat tomorrow evening at about 7:30. it is called the Scotland Room. Not sure if this will work as on reading how this is done you can't just join in you have to be added by the administrator, who for this purpose would be me. If you see this and are interested in a group chat ( no topic in mind) its an experiment. PM me and I will add your name to the list. I couldn't decide where this post lay in the subject matter so I chose humour as we all like to have a laugh. So the more the merrier. Warning: I am not taking any responsibility for this group chat not working. Did I mention experiment. :)

We're in Northamptonshire so a good way to travel to meet up. We love our garden, but my husband does most of it now...and have an allotment too. I have a tiny dog who recently lost his sight due to diabetic cataracts, so we struggle with him now out walking. He also has arthritis do were a right pair! My hobbies are anything craft based, I also do acrylic painting and dabble in oils. The beauty of flowers fascinates me. Love reading and look forward to finding out more about this group. I listen to Three Counties Radio every day and today Saturday 17/10/2015 a caller called Dave from Luton rang in about Elvis Presley, as the radio presenter was asking "did Elvis ever visit the U.K.?" Anyway, Dave from Luton said he saw Elivis in disguise wearing a black hat and had a "beard". This was at RAF Chicksands in the 50's. Dave has said this time and time again and nobody believes him. I do though. I know it is fact that Elvis went to Scotland whilst changing flights and met Billy Fury there, but I was wondering if anybody among the Silversurfers were at RAF Chicksands at that time. If you were there I would be really happy to know because the presenters just laugh at Dave and I have no doubt that he is telling the truth and want to back him up. Can anybody recall/remember this please. I am very grateful to you all and look forward to hearing that someone did also see Elvis there. Thank you.

Hello. Mike from Florida here. Am 63 and retired. Looking for a cruise companion to share in stateroom cost to lower expenses. I am a smoker, but do not smoke in the cabin. A few alcohol drinks here and there is the most I do for alcohol drinking. I have a reposition cruise from Port Canaveral Florida to Amsterdam, Holland on my radar along with about 32 days of cruising once we get there. 12 Nights reposition cruise leaving April 22, 2023 with 3 stops before reaching Holland. Then 8 night Norwegian Fjords, then 12 night Iceland and Scotland, then 12 night British Isles. All on Jewel of the Sea. A Royal Caribbean Cruise ship. After the final cruise, fly out of Amsterdam to home base. Cost for cruises alone is around $4,100 (for inside cabin) then goes up from there. If this peaks your interest, contact me at [email protected] and we can converse that way.

Bear with me as I learn the ropes plz ☺ It would be fun to make a few new friends & forming new connections is always a positive challenge. I'm within a 5 minute walk from one stretch of beach & a 5 minute bus trip to another...beautiful sea views on my doorstep. Small town with plenty to offer however, due to current situation there's limited access to most of our local activities etc. Reading, crosswords, quizzes, scrabble, photography, walking, antigue/vintage shops, home cooking, DIY, gardening, cinema & selective TV programs. Always up for a coffee & blether in pleasant surroundings... thankfully cafés open ( at the moment). I'm looking forward to chatting & discovering if I can actually work out how to use this new brand toy ahhum I mean tablet. Will check back here later. Off to stretch my legs & get some fresh air before teatime 🤔fresh air with drop of rain of course. Bye for now.

My first post to introduce myself - I live in the countryside and enjoy gardening especially the days when the sun is shining and I can enjoy a well earned glass of chilled wine looking at the blooms. My husband does the boring jobs (in my view) of cutting the grass and growing the vegetables whilst I plant and weed the flower beds. But I must say it does involve an awful lot of weeding I have always worked in admin and finance and eventually qualified as an accountant about 10 years ago. I enjoy the work and have a great balance because I only work part-time so have plenty of spare time. Three years ago we had a wake-up call and decided to make the most of our "golden years". We went on a fabulous trip to Australia which was somewhere I'd always wanted to visit. Then a six week tour of Scotland two years ago, visiting beautiful Northumberland, on the way and a similar tour of Ireland last year. Looking forward to joining in with the group chatter

Hi I have just joined today and was wondering if anyone (lady) who drives and is living in Ayr would like a free day out in Perth at the Black Watch Balhousie Castle celebration of the Coronation on Saturday 6th May. I understand this is a late request but I have just joined today. What it is is A Celebration Bottomless Brunch in Balhousie Castle Bistro from 10.30am - 12.30 pm while the Coronation is being shown on large screen. Other things happening afterwards. Then a dinner later. All paid for and petrol as well.. Basically someone who is on their own like me who would like a day out. I am a young thinking female pensioner. I could manage to go myself on public transport but would need to start before 6 am on Saturday morning. I have received the invitation as I buy gifts from the Black Watch and the proceeds of what I buy go to help retired Black Watch soldiers and I think it would be a lovely environment to watch the Coronation.

Qatar is hosting the football World Cup in 2022 but ever since it was awarded the prestigious event there has been controversy surrounding the decision. Many have said that the summer temperatures in Qatar which can easy exceed 40°C degrees are far to hot to play in and may endanger players lives. The organisers have said they are building football stadiums that will have air conditioning and keep the temperatures a lot lower. Apparently FIFA ignored serious concerns over the heat in Qatar, in handing the World Cup to the tiny Middle East country in December 2010. Now some of the main members of FIFA have met in Doha, Qatar to discuss switching the tournament to November when the temperatures are lower at about 25ºC which is still hot but cooler than summer. Football bosses in the UK bitterly oppose the World Cup being held in November as it will disrupt the Premier League , FA cup games and League and cup competitions in Scotland. The final could be as late as 23rd December. What are your views? What do you think about the controversial decision to hold the World Cup in Qatar in the first place? Should the decision be reversed? Which country would make a better host?

Hi, I am a farm gal, 65, widowed, mother of adult children (6 sons, 1 daughter) I hope someone from England, Australia, Scotland or Ireland be interested in an American farm gal penpal. I have ancestors and family in all the countries I mentioned but doubt I shall ever know who they are though I have learned and emailed my, only recently learned of, Canadian family which turns out to be about, 80% of my actual family!  Anyway, I think it would be grand to make new very long distance friends though I am very new at this method. I raise organic, free-range chickens that are never killed, but die of old age. My rooster is 16 years old😃 and he's a jolly old fellow named Joseph. I have about 25+ laying hens, 4 banty young roosters and my Joe. I am Blessed with my beautiful Pomeranian, Opy who is the "apple of my eye" as the saying goes😃. He'sa fine little (17#'s) chap that is very clever. He is also my service dog. I live on a large dairy farm and enjoy the lowing of the cattle day and night😄. I am a retired semi tanker driver, an Army veteran from VietNam and I am a Conservative Mennonite Christian lady. I love Jesus. I hope someone will reach back to me😁. Blessings, Brook
